Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
Matthew 10:1

Make Room / Restoration Covenant Church in Apple Valley, MN

This verse rings so true for me in this season of life. I am (finally!) a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, launching my professional career for the first time, in my late 40’s. Before embarking on this journey, the center of my life was our home. Colin’s career in the National Guard regularly pulled him away while our daughter Morgan was growing up, and we found a happy rhythm with him providing for us financially while I provided for us physically. While I’ve worked part time outside the home, the work I did was always a job that provided flexibility so that I could be where I was needed when I was needed by my family.

Many of us have heard the old adage that if you find yourself doing work that doesn’t feel like work, then you’ve found your calling. In my calling as a play therapist, I have the privilege of helping hurting children and their families heal from sickness. While the work can be exhausting, the healing in which I’m blessed to participate nourishes my soul like no experience I’ve had. I know this is part of Christ’s plan for my life.

And wow, have my family and I had to make room! For years, I was able to be available at the drop of a hat. The military continues to pull Colin away often and Morgan is heading into her senior year of college, so they don’t experience the change in our family dynamic regularly. However, when they are home, it’s easy for them to forget that I’m not available the way I have always been, and I still feel the pull to be available. We are in a new season of life. We continue to adjust. We are learning to make room.

Love and Peace,
Ann Fleming

Food on the First

This week is the first Sunday of the month, and that means it is our Food on the First collection day. At the start of the month, we donate food for Westview Elementary School staff to distribute from a “food locker” to hungry families. To help, head to the store for healthful, non-perishable food and bring it to church. Gift cards in any amount to Cub, Wal-Mart or Target will also be greatly appreciated since they help families purchase meat and fresh produce. Cash, check and designated online donations go to The Sheridan Story program that puts a weekend meal in participating students’ backpacks every Friday of the school year

Next Message Series
Messages from the Mediterranean

Some of the most powerful messages of the Bible are found in little books known as “The Minor Prophets.” These ancient prophets of God were each given unique tasks. The closer you read their stories, the more you see how similar the tasks seem – to hear clearly what God was saying and to declare His words to the people around them. Two common threads run through the stories – the importance of actively responding to God and how common it was for people to miss God’s messages. In this series we'll meet high impact people and learn major truth from these small and often forgotten books of the Bible. There is always the promise of something more—another adventure, another battle, a moment to demonstrate your loyalty to your heavenly captain. We'll discover how to recognize and respond to His messages, even in the modern-day storms we face. Join us for adventurous and insightful Sundays each week in July and August.

What We're Learning in June

June Preschool / Restoration Covenant Church in Apple Valley, MN

Preschool:

Have you ever used a compass to show you which way to go? They’re great for helping you on a hike, but not as great when we’re trying to figure out which way to go in life. We need the Bible for that. This month, we’re going to start our ride through the Bikes and Trikes theme as we teach our preschoolers that the Bible tells us which way to go. How wonderful would it be if our preschoolers grew up using the Bible as their compass as they ride through life! So, get geared up to hop on your bike or trike so you can spend the next two months with your preschoolers learning that the Bible tells me which way to go.

“SHOW ME THE RIGHT PATH, O LORD; POINT OUT THE ROAD FOR ME TO FOLLOW.” Psalm 25:4, NLT

June Elementary / Restoration Covenant Church in Apple Valley, MN

Elementary:

God is stronger than anyone and He can do things that would be impossible for you or me. He has proved this throughout history, but nowhere is this more evident than in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Because of what Jesus has done, we can have confidence. And when you put your faith in Jesus, you can live fully alive.

“I REMAIN CONFIDENT OF THIS: I WILL SEE THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING.” Psalm 27:13, NIV
