New Sermon Series
Before Jesus sent the 72, he prepared them. He trained them to pray, to build relationships, then to move those relationships from the ordinary to the sacred. He trained them to embrace rejection and expect kingdom fruitfulness. God works through our relationships to reach more people. Beginning this Sunday, Pastor Rob will teach us what it is like when we are empowered to demonstrate and declare the kingdom of God.
Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts
All the messages from the previous sermon series on the Holy Spirit are available at our Messages web page and as podcasts through iTunes. Restoration Women’s Retreat
The Pastoral Advisory Team would like to thank the Women’s Retreat Committee for the amazing job they did to plan another successful weekend away for the women of Restoration. They gathered at Mount Olivet Retreat Center in Farmington to learn about friendship and God’s commandment in John 15:12 to love one another: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Thanks to Janae Barriuso, Lori Davis, Naomi Drenk, Wendy Feigal, Mary Harmer, Carrie Harpell and Lezlie Steiner for exemplifying this commandment.
“Food on the Third”
Normally we collect food for Westview Elementary School families in need on the first Sunday of the month. This Sunday, March 18, we are going to do another food collection. During spring break at the end of the month, some children who receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch at school will be missing meals. Combined with the fact that the end of the month is also when food for many families runs low, a second food drive in March is needed. Please consider donating boxed dinners, canned meats, and items that can be easily prepared by children home alone at mealtimes. If you choose to donate gift cards or money, we are happy to do the shopping for you!
Child Dedications
There will be a brief, but important gathering after church this Sunday, March 18, for families interested in dedicating their children. We’ll be having child dedications as part of our Sunday worship service on April 15. Contact: Julie Nybakken, JulieNybakken@restorationcov.org
Easter Worship Service
We will gather for worship at 10:30am Easter Sunday, April 8, at our regular meeting place at the Hayes Community and Senior Center. Pray about whom God is prompting you to invite to church for Easter. Contact Julie Nybakken at JulieNybakken@restorationcov.org if you are interested in gifting flowers or helping with decorations for the celebration.
Book Discussion
Do you dream of making a difference in the world? Do you like to read? Join us on the evening of Saturday, March 31, when we will discuss the book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. This eye-opening, troubling, but ultimately uplifting book tells stories of people and organizations that are truly changing the world. While the views in the book may or may not reflect the views of Restoration Covenant Church, we hope this book discussion will be a catalyst to inspire us to help our sisters around the world. The High School Student Group (grades 9-12) meets Sundays at 12:30pm at the Wendy’s on CR 42 & Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley. Contact: Louie Washleski, 952-261-7523
Westview Elementary Serving Opportunity
Volunteers are needed to serve at Westview Elementary School as mentors in the school based Kids ‘n Kinship friendship program. Adult volunteers are matched with children in need of supportive relationships and schoolwork assistance. There is a great kid waiting for you! Being a mentor involves spending about an hour once a week working one-on-one with a child. The program continues through the summer to keep relationships going. For more information, please contact Pam Oslos at pam@lakespromo.com or 612-804-9456.
